Community Development

The Race Equality Centre provides support and advice to groups and organisations from racial minority backgrounds, which is designed to enhance their ability to proactively participate in political, social and economic activities.

 

The REC's community development activities include work with established communities and with new arrivals. We also deliver targeted work with women and young people from racial minority communities, working to enhance leadership from within alienated communities.

  • Leicester Civil Rights Movement
    Facilitate meetings championing rights for new arrivals and challenging racial injustice.

  • Racial Minority Voluntary Sector Assembly
    Facilitate debates and promotes actions which addresses and/or influences structural improvements for racial minority communities.

    Enhancing the capacity of community members to advocate for strategic improvement in health provision.

  • Electoral Registration
    Developing the understanding of the different election processes and the rights and opportunities for new arrival communities to participate.

  • Community Engagement in Leicestershire
    Developing means and opportunities for racial minority communities to engage effectively in the County Council decision making processes

  • Voluntary Sector Groups
    Supporting the development and maintenance of key voluntary sector groups addressing interest within racial minority communities.
